Artist's statement :
— Perhaps my having little affinity for the literary explains why I am naturally drawn to the visual esthetic of the I Ching and the way its symbols function. In the I Ching, I am gradually discovering rhythms, congruities, possibilities for interpretation, and a complete system of symbols that have the potential to enrich one's path.
In the moments of idleness my life accords me, I spend my time deciphering the indecipherable. With the passing of time, my hands produce curious forms, the heirs and direct descendants of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. Although they no longer bear a strong resemblance to their ancestors, they retain their structure, dynamics, and their many interconnections. Every piece has its own story to tell.
My process is my own, and I can make no claims of accuracy. All of the techniques available to me come into play: painting, sculpture, sound, computer design, and movement. I nurture my art by practicing T'ai chi ch'uan daily, tending a seasonal vegetable garden, and delving occasionally into the heart of the I Ching.
