William Shakespeare, As You Like It Act 2, scene 1
— Sweet are the uses of adversity, Which, like the toad, ugly and venomous, Wears yet a precious jewel in his head.
By these bittersweet words, the duke is describing the view upon the world he's been forced to adopt now that he's been deposed and exiled by his villainous brother. He compares his seeming suffering to an ugly toad, which legendarily had a "precious jewel" with healing qualities embedded in its temple.
Shakespeare seems to be saying that happy living in stressful situations is possible. Sometimes, binding conditions of existence can even lead to happiness.
This exhibition presents the work of seven confirmed artists who will present their vision of unconditional happiness, free from contingencies and vicissitudes of everyday life.
